Problems importing a PDF external form

I have gotten a request to update the PDF of an external form. However, any small changes I make to the form render the whole form unusable. when I reference the PDF, Metastorm indicated that it cannot parse the PDF. I went over the user manual and it indicated that Metastorm only works with Adobe 7 or 8 PDF or earlier. I went back and had adobe pro save it in Adobe 6 or earlier, but it still doesn't work. Is there a trick of generating PDF that can be use with external form form 7.6 SR4?
